I noticed in the story about violence in schools that the only incident in North Ayrshire last year that was reported to the police involved a primary school pupil throwing something and hitting the teacher. The pupil was punished by being suspended for 2 days. They have got to be joking! Hit your teacher and you get a 2 day holiday!
No wonder violence in schools is getting worse.

I wondered what to say unusual for me,the fact that only one incident was reported, to me suggests either they are very good at their job or slight manipulation of the figure.By that I mean when does it go in the "book" Slightly on topic, how good are the teachers today? Do they command respect?.In the 50s to the 70s, teachers tended to have had a previous job prior to teaching , and were aware of the world, and could guide/advise/from life as a result a respect followed OK there still were teachers you couldn't stick Of course teachers stayed where the worked, more or less and had no qualms in telling the parents...... Education has evolved and not necessarily for the better
Consider a teacher who goes to kinder garden, primary, secondary, college or uni and on to teach at school, they could be 50 years old or older and never left school

I wouldn't take a teacher's job for anything. They have no chance of controlling some of the children today. There is a lack of respect, not just for teachers but for everyone. I also agree with higgy that a 2 day suspension for throwing something at a teacher and hitting them is ridiculous. What message does that send?

I wonder if there is a willingness in some teachers to do the job,or some just don't command any respect. Somewhere between the belt getting banned and today something went terribly wrong Not advocating a belt return
